Jewellery Care and Information

How do I clean my handmade jewellery?

Genuine sterling silver may tarnish over time, but is extremely simple to maintain. You can wipe your pieces with a soft silver polishing cloth, or invest in a supersonic jewellery cleaner. I recommend avoiding polishes harsh cleaning chemicals and solvents as they can leave residual traces that can harm the silver and also skin.

To clean seaglass simply use soapy water and a toothbrush to remove any dirt and impurities. Once clean, leave to dry then add a little drop of baby oil onto the surface. This will give the glass a semi-gloss finish. Alternatively, rub with a little alcohol for a more matte, white pitted look.

As an independent artist, I always wants everyone to always see my jewellery at its best, and for cost of return postage I am also happy to polish my works for free!

Will jewellery discolour my skin?

Skin discolouration from wearing jewellery can happen for a number of reasons. Most commonly it is due to cheaper materials, such as nickel, reacting and potentially irritating the skin.

For high quality metals like sterling silver and gold, this reaction may be due to a range of factors such as skin PH changes or perfumes and hairspray that are on the skin and reacting at a chemical level to the metal.

Where should I store my handmade jewellery?

Like all precious objects, store your jewellery in a safe, dry place. A dark place that is sealed and protected from air and water, such as a jewellery case or box, can also prevent tarnishing and loss.

Can I swim with my jewellery on?

You can, but like all precious metals, sterling silver and gold will look best when they are kept free from exposure to wetness.

If you do, I recommend rinsing your jewellery afterwards with clean water as chlorine and sea water can both cause corrosion for all metal objects.

Playing, participating in sports and other physical activity may also put you at risk of losing your piece in the water, so removing your jewellery first is often recommended!

Why sterling silver?

Apart from its soft sheen and beauty, sterling silver is an incredibly strong and durable alloy. The sterling silver I use in my creations are 925 sterling silver, ensuring the colour will not fade over time and is hypoallergenic and less likely to upset or irritate skin. It will never turn green and takes far longer to tarnish.

How do I find know my ring size?

The easiest way to work out your ring size is to drop into your local jeweller and they can measure your size easily with a ring sizer.

If this is not convenient click on this youtube video link which shows three other ways to check your ring size at home before placing an order.

Ring sizes are also measured differently around the world and if you need to check your sizing against Australian sizes click here to see the international ring conversion chart.

Custom Pieces & Made to Order

How do I organise a custom order with Georgie?

I’m so glad you asked and cannot wait to collaborate. You can get the process started by visiting my custom orders page and letting me know some details about you and your ideal piece.

How much do custom pieces cost?

Like all handmade jewellery, the cost of custom pieces is dependent on a range of factors, including the hours required to create and the materials used.

If you are working to a strict budget, I am happy to discuss options that may work to this price to create something as unique and special as possible.

Are custom orders refundable?

In alignment with Victorian consumer laws, custom designs are only eligible for a refund or replacement in the event of a major problem that is covered by consumer guarantees. Due to the nature of custom orders and handmade jewellery, there are no change-of-mind refunds for custom orders.

For returns on existing stock from the website there is a 14 day returns policy for a piece of jewellery can be exchanged for another or a gift voucher of equivalent value.

Do you only do custom seaglass jewellery?

Not at all! I love to include all kinds of beautiful materials in my work including precious metals, pearls, stones and even ancient roman coins! I offer a wide range of styles for custom orders, many of which can be found on the gallery page.

I would be honoured to help you with a stunning and unique engagement ring for your beloved-to-be. Simply mention in your custom orders request that this is an engagement ring, and let’s create something beautiful together (and ensure no photos are shared online until after your big moment!)
